In the Name of Who?
My husband dropped me and two of the kidoozles off at a store while he took the other two and himself to get the oil changed in our vehicle. We went in, made our purchases, and went outside.
I got on the phone to call my husband and check on his status while a gentleman pulled up in his vehicle with his family. He saw my 4 year old and complimented her features (her eyes). Say thank you! I reminded her, still on the phone with my husband.
The gentleman then proceeded to tell me May the Lord bless you and your family. I smiled, still on the phone, said thank you then thought to add and your family as well. To WHICH he replied, ” We are blessed. In the name of Jesus we are blessed.” I smiled, a little dumbfounded and honestly at a loss for words (which had a lot to do with trying to juggle two conversations, mostly in which I was attempting to pay attention to what my husband was telling me.)
A couple of thoughts running through my head included….
- So… does this mean he rejects MY blessings, which are trumped by his?
- Is he trying to cast demons out of my family???
- Wait, what? What in the world just happened?
He seemed very sincere, but I couldn’t help but feel like that was a bit overbearing (like the type of situation you would expect folks to complain about when discussing “bible thumpers”). I was completely caught off guard, trying to talk to my husband on the phone, and, well, it would have been nice if I could have pointed out our Savior’s true name so he would at least know. Another thought that flitted through my head.
And on that note, I say this because….
- “Jesus” was a “Jew”, not a Greek (Grecian?)
- The letter J was invented in the 16th century ~ For those wondering Judah is Yudah. He comes from “the tribe of Yudah”. Yudah became Judah which was shortened to “Jew”. Another word for “Jewish” is Yiddish…. anyway…
- Yeshua means SALVATION while Jesus means…. well… I’m not 100% on that….
(Yeshua to Jesus? How do we get from there to there? Y..H..V..H to “J”..H..V..H at least makes sense…)
HOWEVER, I’m not faulting the gentleman on this part because I am sure he was taught “Jesus” just as I was until I realized that’s not accurate. The Lord (Adonai… YHVH… Elohim) knows who we are calling on, true, but we still need to know and understand our Savior’s name and where it came from. It is, after all, the name HE bestowed on him, our Savior, and that makes it important enough for me!
